Top 5 Reasons to Attend the 2023 ISPE Aseptic Conference
ISPE Aseptic is one of those conferences where the depth of knowledge astounds me. When I started attending and speaking at the ISPE Aseptic Conference in the 2000s, I came to grow and learn.
1) Committed People Move the Industry
I presented on planning and executing and designing fill lines, RABS, Isolators, and transfers – along with the differences between processing potent compounds versus non- potent compounds. Along the way – one of the things that we noticed across the industry was that most presenters at most conferences were men. We started working on the plan for ISPE’s Women in Pharma®. It is well known that if you see someone that looks like you speaking on stage, you are more likely to feel comfortable thinking that you can do that too. That was really the start of the Women in Pharma movement. We wanted to address the external and internal issues that prevent people from presenting and stepping into leadership roles. The planning committee of the ISPE Aseptic Conference has been highly supportive in increasing the number of women leading and presenting at the ISPE Aseptic Conference for years. The last two years – the Women in Pharma® breakfast session has been a highly technical presentation regarding a survey of the industry around growth in the Aseptic market. This year we are going to do a coaching session for women and men alike to enhance skill sets for future leaders and presenters.
2) Be Bold to Empower and Raise Each Other Up
ISPE’s Aseptic Conference is welcoming people from the industry, especially young professionals, to learn, share and to get a deeper understanding of our business from your peers. From aseptic manufacturing, process development, primary packaging selection to finished goods – you will be able to gain a lot more technical experiences by speaking to colleagues in the industry. As women, we face unique challenges as compared to our male colleagues – from having to strike the right balance between work commitments and responsibilities at home and other psychological and cultural factors. To help address these challenges, ISPE Aseptic Conference offers a Women In Pharma® session to address issues and provide coaching for those who face challenges to be empowered and being an equal contributor in the pharmaceutical industry. Participants will have the opportunity to learn from global industry experts who share their thoughts and experiences and ways to overcome these challenges. “The success of every woman should be the inspiration to another. 3) Connect, Share, and Collaborate
ISPE’s Aseptic Conference is a good platform to connect, share your knowledge and discover what is new in the industry. Let’s hear what our industry experts has to say about new regulatory guidelines, aseptic processing, contamination control and many more interesting topics. In addition, you will have a great opportunity to attend a Women In Pharma® session. This is a great forum for connecting and collaborating on technical and career advancement topics. I was introduced to Women In Pharma® in 2018 as a panelist. I had such an enriching experience to share knowledge and hear from other women leaders in the industry that now I Chair Women In Pharma® for the ISPENew Jersey Chapter. Be part of Women in Pharma®’s inclusive community and leverage a network of mentors, role models, and resources across all levels to foster balanced professional success.
4) You Will Find Different Growth Points throughout Your Career
It is fascinating to return to the ISPE Aseptic Conference each year and see old faces and new faces presenting on old topics and new topics. These technical topics take on new tones as the innovation of equipment changes, dosage forms change, and as the technology of the fluids and delivery systems change. Even though the conference has familiar faces - this year the topics have new tones. How are we approaching the QRM (quality risk management) approach that is now expected per Annex 1? And can we use QRM to push PUPSIT around? This is that conference where if you invest in the networking and friendships - you will find how your peers in the industry are dusting off some of these not so new ideas.
5) Invest in Yourself - You Are All That You Have
As the culture of emotional intelligence has grown - one of the biggest things that has been addressed within coaching circles and mentoring is dealing with our own blind spots. That deep dive into believing that we are each worthy of growing and changing is important work. It is not easy work, but it is freeing - especially when you have friends that are working on similar efforts. Get involved in changing your emotional intelligence. Get involved in changing your technical understanding. Grow!
